Capillary condensation of saturated vapor in a corner formed by two intersecting walls

چکیده

The dynamics of saturated vapor between two intersecting walls is examined. It shown that, if the angle $\phi$ sufficiently small, becomes unstable, and spontaneous condensation occurs in corner, similar to so-called capillary into a porous medium. As result, an ever-growing liquid meniscus develops near corner. diffuse-interface model lubrication approximation are used demonstrate that grows only $\phi+2\theta<\pi$, where $\theta$ contact corresponding fluid/solid combination under consideration. This criterion has simple physical explanation: it holds, surface concave -- hence, Kelvin effect causes condensation. Once thickness condensate exceeds by order magnitude characteristic interfacial thickness, volume starts grow linearly with time. If near-vertex region corner smoothed, instability can be triggered off finite-size perturbations, such include enough cover smoothed aria microscopically-thin film.

Intersecting domain walls in MQCD

We argue that MQCD admits intersecting domain walls that are realized as Cayley calibrations of the MQCD M5-brane. We discuss various dual realizations and comment on how branes can realise domain walls in N=1 supersymmetric theories in D=3. 1 E-mail: [email protected] 2 E-mail: [email protected] 3 E-mail: [email protected]

Dynamics of saturated energy condensation in two-dimensional turbulence.

In two-dimensional forced Navier-Stokes turbulence, energy cascades to the largest scales in the system to form a pair of coherent vortices known as the Bose condensate. We show, both numerically and analytically, that the energy condensation saturates and the system reaches a statistically stationary state. The time scale of saturation is inversely proportional to the viscosity and the saturat...

Recombination of Intersecting D-branes by Local Tachyon Condensation

We provide a simple low energy description of recombination of intersecting Dbranes using super Yang-Mills theory. The recombination is realized by condensation of an off-diagonal tachyonic fluctuation localized at the intersecting point. The recombination process is equivalent to brane-antibrane annihilation, thus our result confirms Sen’s conjecture on tachyon condensation, although we work i...
